The GSAA Regional Information Management System (RIMS) project team is happy to announce the launch of the beta version of the GSAA Coast and Ocean Portal. The Portal was built with a diverse team of experts that developed the framework, designed the user interface, collected and prepared data, and selected information and tools relevant to coastal managers. The Portal has three main sections: Learn (which highlights themes and pre-selected data layers), Explore (data catalog), and Visualize (map viewer). The initial themes highlighted in the Portal are sediment management (port expansion and beach nourishment) and habitat conservation. Data can and will continue to be added to the Portal, but it will be important for the growth to be strategic. At present, the Portal data are organized in themes; therefore, the data catalog and data layers will grow by adding data related to those themes or by developing new themes (based on available resources).
During the beta launch, RIMS team members would appreciate your feedback on the Portal to assure that we are meeting the needs of GSAA partners and stakeholders. As you familiarize yourself with the Portal, please provide your thoughts via the “feedback” link in the top right corner of the page.
